Flowers and green are beautiful. That's  not a ladybug for sure. I've never seen one of those.

Oooohhhh....very nice. I love ladybugs, but over here, the past ten years, they became fewer and fewer. With climate change comes changes in our eco systems and that saddens me so Waaaah!  I've been photographing seriously for about 6 years and I've never captured one yet. I remember when I was a kid..they were everywhere. Luckily they still are around elsewhere and especially on DA.
Good job Clap

Yes that is sad I agree. :(   I really wouldn't know if they are on the decline around here as I've lived in the city for many years.  But I hope not. (honeybees are also on the decline. That really saddens me. )

Yes, I know a couple of bee keepers, and two years ago the wast majority of their bees just disappeared over night..simultaneously...weird. Good news is this summer was better. I watched a documentary concerning this, and bees are more important to us than we might imagine. If all bees dissappear, so will 50-60 percent of everything that's on the shelves in our grocery stores. Let's pray that won't happen.
After all, nature's harboring unsurpassed power to recover. I believe Hug

Oh yes I read about that too, how important the bee is to our survival (all of us, not just people but all of the on land life, I believe it said) It's a scary thought.

That is odd about the bee keepers.  When you say they just disappeared over night do you mean they died?  Or were they taken?  My guess is that you meant they died.
For that to happen something in the environment definitely killed them.  It must have been something big.  I wonder what it could have been.

The thing is, they didn't find them dead. They were just gone.
Same thing happened in the documentary. They just left. Not all hives were abandoned though but the spooky thing is it happened in various locations the same night. Bee keepers never found them.
Scientists did have a theory what might have happened, I just can't recall what that was Bumble Bee Boingy :beedance: Beemote

That is bizarre.   I wonder if someone might have stolen them, planned it all out carefully....For it to have happened to more than one bee keeper and in the same night.

There is a watercolour feel to this work, Linda, and that works very well. I'm also taken by how well you integrate the palette of colour. Face, head, hair all neatly enhanced; lettering on the top removed, and some of the "lace" frill on the skirt removed or blurred. Was it all to go? You go from strength to strength with these.

Thanks David! :)

Well I love works with that 'painterly' feel, so, if I can make mine look that way, that is always my first goal (although with some, for some reason, they don't always work out or look right at all). I used brushes to get the effect (I enjoyed fiddling with those  ) not filters; so I'm proud of that. :)!
The colors - are never my greatest strength. I don't plan them (per se) For instance, the flowers in the foreground I initially had wanted to be their original color (more of a pink theme) but it just didn't look right. I was surprised with the end result, I would have thought it to be 'too much blue', but it worked out very nicely.
Blurring to the skirt, deliberate yes (for flowers in foreground as well).
Her hair came out too dark initially and I was itching to post the work but I was just not happy with it ( made her look older than she is and I wanted to stay as close as possible to her natural color; so, that took some fiddling. But I was very happy with the end result, and glad I was patient.
I'm definitely learning things as I go along, David. :) Thank you!!!!

The colours just come naturally, Linda. You go with what you feel is correct. I'm pleased and intrigued that you are using brushes rather than filters. I can never get the hang of them when I use them, except sometimes when I paint in some shadows - 50% opacity mid-tone grey. I think it is very useful to make these notes as well in response to comments. I often try to explain what I do in comments and replies in order to remind myself as much as to help others.

Cheers

Yes I agree David. I enjoy hearing about the goings on of the behind the scenes myself.  I wish more people would explain about their own art.  But I believe most don't have the time to stop and read much. Unfortunately.!

Agreed about time, Linda. I once thought that one of the purposes of Groups was to help promote the techniques as well as the images, but sadly that does not seem to be the case as few people are willing to help do that. Time, motivation, changing circumstances make such activity difficult. But, individuals like us spark off against one another and ideas are exchanged. Some ideas stick and flourish resulting in new work. This is the essence of Socratic learning.

Cheers

David
